New Zealand holds its general election on Saturday, 7 November, after a campaign that left the main contenders closely matched, according to the Associated Press. Advance voting began on 26 October and ends Friday.

The Electoral Commission says voting places are open from 9 am to 7 pm on Saturday. Preliminary results will start to appear after polls close. Those figures will offer a first look at the balance in Parliament, where smaller parties could matter if neither of the main contenders has a clear path to governing.
