The Nigerian Army says soldiers freed 16 people during an operation in Niger State on Thursday, 5 November. The operation took place in Kontagora Local Government Area, where troops from 18 Brigade ambushed a route the army said was used by armed groups.

Channels Television reported that soldiers recovered weapons, ammunition and about ₦4.1 million. The rescue follows a separate reported abduction of students and their teacher in Rafi Local Government Area on 31 October. The army’s account did not say whether anyone freed in Kontagora was among those taken in Rafi.
